Storms Hit McHenry County: Clouds, Power Losses, and Flood Warnings
McHenry County, IL, USAFri Apr 03 2026
The county woke up to a dramatic sky shift as clouds spun and thunder rolled. A funnel‑shaped cloud was spotted near Marengo, then it drifted north toward Union and Woodstock. Because of this, officials raised a tornado alert for the county’s northeast corner until 8:15 p. m. The sirens that rang in several towns let residents know the danger was real.
Roads didn’t stay open either. Route 120 and Bull Valley Road were shut down late Thursday because of debris on the roadways. By about 8:30 p. m. , around 1, 200 people lost electricity as the power company dealt with outages.
The weather service added another layer of concern: a flood warning for the whole county. Radar data showed heavy rain from thunderstorms, with 1 to 2 inches already falling and up to an extra inch expected. That amount could cause small floods in many towns, from Crystal Lake and McHenry to Woodstock and beyond.
Residents were advised to stay alert, keep an eye on weather updates, and prepare for possible water damage. The combination of rotating clouds, power loss, and rain made it a day to remember for McHenry County.
