The North Bay faced another rough night as a powerful storm system continued to wreak havoc. This was the third night of heavy rain and strong winds, which caused more trees to fall and left many without electricity. The storm was part of a weather pattern known as an atmospheric river, which brings a lot of moisture and can cause flooding and other problems.
The worst of the storm hit on Thursday night, with strong winds and heavy rain. There were even tornado warnings and thunderstorms in the Bay Area around dinner time on Christmas. However, things calmed down a bit overnight, with the rain becoming less intense and more scattered in the North Bay. Most places only got about half an inch of rain in the last 24 hours, with the Sonoma County Airport receiving 0. 47 inches and the Napa County Airport getting 0. 62 inches. The wettest spot in Sonoma County was Lake Sonoma, which got 1. 87 inches of rain.
As of Friday morning, there were still 4, 361 customers in Sonoma County without power. Most of these outages were in unincorporated areas, and there were 185 current outages in the county. However, 98. 1% of customers had their power back. One of the outages was in the area around Bodega, where a tree fell on a power line, leaving 457 people without electricity. The power was expected to be restored by 6 p. m. on Friday.
There were no major emergencies caused by the weather overnight, but there was some wind damage. Several trees fell, causing power outages and road closures. The storm was expected to bring another quarter-inch of rain to the North Bay on Friday morning and afternoon before tapering off in the evening. The weather was expected to clear up by Saturday morning and stay dry through next week.
The last remaining hazard was a high surf advisory in effect through 10 p. m. on Friday along the coast in the North Bay. The waves were expected to be up to 25 feet high, making it dangerous to go to the beach.
