Teachers' Social Media Habits and Work Performance: What Really Affects Their Success?

Sun Apr 19 2026
Teachers' daily interactions with students and parents play a big role in how well they do their jobs. But their Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok habits can also make a difference. A study looked at 1, 840 teachers from primary and secondary schools to see how these factors connect. Most were around 40 years old, and nearly 40% were men.
The research found that stronger ties with students and parents usually help teachers feel more confident and satisfied with their work. But when teachers spend too much time on social media, their job performance suffers. Surprisingly, parent-teacher relationships had a bigger positive effect than teacher-student ones. Social media addiction also played a key role—it weakened the positive link between parent-teacher relationships and work performance. On the bright side, a supportive school environment helped reduce the negative impact of social media overuse. These findings suggest that schools should focus on building strong relationships while also helping teachers manage their screen time. A balanced approach could help teachers perform better without burning out.
