You might know Elon Musk for his space adventures or electric cars. But did you know he's helping Donald Trump's transition team? And guess who's joining him? Venture capitalists (VCs) from Silicon Valley! Marc Andreessen, co-founder of Andreessen Horowitz, is one of them. He's being considered for the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE for short. This group aims to improve data collection for federal programs. But Musk isn't the only one with connections in tech. Antonio Gracias and Joe Lonsdale, co-founders of Valor Equity Partners and 8VC respectively, are also being tapped. Lonsdale has a background in defense technology and government software. Andreessen Horowitz has been investing in Musk's SpaceX since 2022.
The DOGE team plans to recommend cuts and reduce federal employees, they wrote in a Wall Street Journal editorial. They expect some legal pushback, too. Before putting their plans into action, they're starting a podcast. And that's not all. Andreessen Horowitz might also join a new crypto advisory council. Brian Quintenz, their policy head, is already advising Trump's team. Another VC firm, Paradigm, and even Coinbase are interested. Former Trump tech officer Michael Kratsios is also back, handling tech policy for Trump's transition team. He used to work for Peter Thiel. But here's something to think about: Would you trust these tech moguls with important government decisions? They're used to running businesses, not countries.
