Teenage gunmen caught after Austin shooting spree

Austin, Texas, USAMon May 18 2026
Austin police announced that two teenagers were taken into custody following a series of gunfire incidents over the weekend. The first suspect, 15 years old, was apprehended after taking a firearm from a local shop. The second, 17, had an existing warrant for stealing a gun from the same establishment. The arrests came after twelve separate shootings across south and east Austin on Saturday and early Sunday. Authorities say the gunmen moved through the city in stolen vehicles, taking more than four cars during their run.
Four people were hit by bullets. One sustained serious injuries, while the other three suffered only minor wounds. Police have not yet determined why the teens fired at random targets. Among the most shocking shots were those aimed at two fire stations, and a truck was struck during one of the exchanges. Residential buildings also saw gunfire. A third young man, Hispanic, fled from the vehicle when the two teens were finally caught. He remains at large and is wanted by law enforcement. Investigators are still working to uncover the motive behind the shootings. They have not released any additional details at this time.
