Texas is in for a weather rollercoaster. After a warm Christmas weekend, a cold front is set to sweep through the state late Sunday, bringing a chance of snow in some areas. This shift is unusual, as Texas rarely sees snow due to its generally warm climate and location south of the jet stream.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Midland is keeping a close eye on the situation. They say there's a small chance of snow in parts of West Texas and the Panhandle early Monday. However, they're not entirely sure it will happen. The weather models suggest it's possible, but they're not confident enough to say for sure.
Temperatures are expected to drop quickly. On Sunday, highs will be in the 70s and 80s, but by Monday night, lows could be as chilly as 28 degrees. In the Midland-Odessa area, there's a 20% to 35% chance of snow, depending on how the moisture and cold air interact.
Other parts of Texas will also feel the change. El Paso might see showers late Sunday night, while cities like Houston, Beaumont, and San Antonio could get rain starting Sunday evening. Laredo is expected to have windy conditions, but no snow is forecast for South Texas.
The NWS is advising everyone in Texas to keep an eye on the weather and prepare for colder temperatures early next week. They will continue to monitor the storm system and update their forecast as more information becomes available.
This weather shift is a reminder that Texas can experience a wide range of conditions, from warm and sunny to cold and snowy. It's always a good idea to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws our way.
