Texas Lawmaker’s Stance Raises Big Health Questions
Texas, USAThu Jun 25 2026
Ken Paxton, the Texas Attorney General, celebrated the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade as a triumph for his office, even declaring an internal holiday. This celebration came at the expense of many Texans who lost control over their own bodies. Paxton’s support for Texas’ strict abortion ban has turned the state government into an obstacle between women and their doctors. The result is real, painful suffering for families across the state.
One example is Amanda Zurawski of Austin. Her water broke at 18 weeks, and doctors knew the pregnancy was no longer viable and that she risked a deadly infection. Because a fetal heartbeat was still detectable, hospital lawyers stopped any medical intervention. Amanda had to wait until she developed life‑threatening sepsis before treatment could begin, spending three days in intensive care. Stories like hers have become all too common under Paxton’s policies.
Texas hospitals now see a 50 % rise in pregnancy‑related sepsis cases, and the state’s maternal death rate has jumped 56 % since the bans. These numbers far exceed national averages and are avoidable with proper medical care. Paxton’s agenda focuses on controlling people’s bodies and futures, and he has pushed to criminalize doctors who provide lawful care.
He now seeks a seat in the U. S. Senate, where he plans to extend this extreme approach nationwide. Texans need leaders who protect personal freedom, support families, and trust medical experts instead of politicians who prioritize bans over health.
In November, voters must reject Paxton’s dangerous policies and stop his bid for a Senate seat.
