Texas Shuts Down Fake Dallas School Claiming Islamic STEM Degrees
Richardson, Texas, USASun May 10 2026
Texas has just pulled the plug on a Dallas-area school operating under a misleading name. The place called itself the Texas American Muslim University at Dallas, promising degrees in tech fields like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. But here’s the catch: it never had state approval to hand out diplomas. About 30% of its classes were supposed to focus on Islamic studies, marketing itself as a pioneer in combining religion with science. The real problem? Texas law says no school can grant degrees without a special license from the state. This fake university never got that stamp of approval.
State officials didn’t waste time. They sent a warning to stop all student enrollment and advertising immediately. If the school keeps breaking the rules, it could face heavy fines, legal battles, or even criminal charges. Using words like “university” without permission is also against the law in Texas. The school had just a day to confirm it had shut everything down permanently.
Governor Greg Abbott made it clear: Texas won’t tolerate illegal schools. In a public statement, he said unauthorized operations won’t be allowed to stay open. This follows reports that the school was already taking applications for future semesters and running classes. Another issue? Texas A&M University’s system also stepped in, accusing the fake school of copying its name and trademarks to trick students.
