Prologue Entertainment, a new production company, has teamed up with The Atlantic to turn its news stories into TV shows and movies. This deal means that The Atlantic's journalism could soon be the basis for both scripted and unscripted projects. Prologue, which is supported by RedBird Capital, will work on developing these ideas, with RedBird IMI focusing on unscripted content.
Prologue has already made a name for itself with notable projects. It produced the Netflix series Zero Day, starring Robert De Niro, and the film A House of Dynamite, directed by Kathryn Bigelow. These projects show what a partnership with The Atlantic could bring, as the magazine is known for breaking big stories and offering insightful cultural and economic analysis.
The team behind Prologue has impressive credentials. Noah Oppenheim, one of the founders, has written screenplays for films like Jackie and The Maze Runner, and has been the president of NBC News. Lloyd Braun, another founder, was the former chairman of WME and ABC Entertainment Group. Sarah Bremner, the third founder, was the president of Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Filmworks.
Oppenheim expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that The Atlantic uncovers stories that Prologue was created to tell. He mentioned that both teams are interested in current events and future possibilities. Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic, also shared his enthusiasm, highlighting the magazine's strong journalism and storytelling.
This collaboration could lead to some interesting and relevant entertainment. The Atlantic's rigorous reporting and compelling narratives could translate well into film and TV. However, it remains to be seen how these adaptations will handle the complexities of real-world issues.
