The scene in Oakland, California, where a huge brush fire, called the Keller Fire, started on a Friday afternoon. The flames began in a home on Mountain Avenue and quickly spread to nearby Eucalyptus trees. The fire grew to cover 15 acres and damaged two homes, with many others at risk.
Firefighters worked hard to control the blaze. By Saturday morning, they had managed to contain 50% of it. However, there was still a lot of work to be done. Sheng Thao, the mayor of Oakland, urged residents to evacuate immediately if ordered to do so. She explained that these orders were put in place to protect the health and safety of the citizens.
Delane Sims, whose home was one of the two damaged, shared her experience. Her husband was inside when the fire reached their home, causing a window to explode. Thankfully, he was able to escape without injury. Delane expressed her gratitude for his safe escape.
