When someone is killed illegally, their remains can be crucial in revealing human rights abuses. However, cases like this are often complex and can make legal procedures tricky. These situations usually have red flags, requiring special investigation to figure out the cause of death and any human rights violations. This review looks at the legal and process-related difficulties of managing the remains of such individuals. It examines how laws are applied and how they shape society, culture, and politics in cases of unlawful killings and disappearances. Researchers used a web scraper with a Python-based HTML parsing library to collect articles on three main topics: international and humanitarian laws protecting human remains, protecting remains in cases of illegal killings and disappearances, and considering social and psychological factors along with institutional failings.
This review shows the tension between what people need culturally and socially and what happens legally. It also highlights the importance of community support like social services, mental health care for affected families, and citizen initiatives. The study finds a gap between legal rules and how they're actually carried out, stressing the need to improve legal guidance and ensure procedures are properly followed to respect the dead and hold accountable those who violate the right to life.
