Wilton Allen, a custodian at Southside High School, has been making a big difference in the lives of students and staff. He started working there in February 2025 and quickly became known for his friendly and positive attitude. Allen remembers his own school days and how there was no one to talk to or offer support. This inspired him to be that person for the students at Southside. Allen was surprised and honored to be named one of three finalists for the Education All-Stars awards. These awards are given by the nonprofit Love Our Schools to recognize outstanding support staff in the Lafayette Parish School System. He never expected to be recognized for his work, but he is grateful for the nomination and the support of his colleagues.
Allen loves interacting with students and staff. He believes in encouraging them to stay positive and keep a smile on their faces, even when things get tough. He tells them that good things will come their way if they maintain a good attitude. His co-workers appreciate his efforts and the positive impact he has on the school environment. The finalists for the 2025-2026 Education All-Stars will be honored during the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s men’s basketball game on February 7. The winners will be announced during halftime, giving Allen and the other finalists a chance to be celebrated for their hard work and dedication. Allen’s story is a reminder that everyone, no matter their role, can make a difference in the lives of others. His positive attitude and willingness to support students and staff have made him a valuable part of the Southside High community.
