Three Stars Shine as Louisiana Ends School Year

Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USAMon May 25 2026
Louisiana’s education leaders wrapped up the 2025‑26 academic year by naming three standout students at a ceremony held on May 18 at LSU’s Lod Cook Conference Center. The honors spotlight achievements across elementary, middle and high school levels, showcasing a mix of academic prowess, leadership and community service. The elementary award went to Sanil Savita Thorat of Fairfield Magnet School in Caddo Parish. Thorat has taken part in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and tackled the “1, 000 Books Before Kindergarten” challenge. He is also eager to pursue medicine and spends time volunteering with local health groups. Kaejha Mary‑Anne Christine Stewart earned the middle school title while attending A. E. Phillips Laboratory School in Lincoln Parish. Stewart’s talents stretch beyond the classroom; she has performed at Carnegie Hall and leads her school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also holds spots on the National Junior Honor Society, Science Olympiad and MathCounts teams.
Melissa An Le captured the high school award from Ruston High School, also in Lincoln Parish. Le is set to attend Harvard after already earning the middle school honor earlier. She has served as student‑body president, taken a state‑wide role with Future Business Leaders of America, and launched the “STEM to Bloom” video series that reaches thousands. Le also sits on the National Girls Collaborative Project board. These recognitions illustrate how Louisiana’s students are excelling in diverse arenas—from spelling bees to performing arts, from scientific competitions to social media outreach. They also highlight the importance of community involvement and future‑focused goals in shaping well‑rounded leaders.
