TikTok steps into live event streaming with a separate app
United States, USAThu Jun 04 2026
TikTok has just released a new app called TikTok Pro Events, designed to let U. S. users track live entertainment moments like the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Instead of waiting for clips to pop up in their main feed, users can now jump into a dedicated space that highlights major happenings. By exploring trending tags and joining the event hub, they rack up “Stars” which can be traded for merch, store vouchers, or even donated to charity. The app is free to grab from the App Store and Google Play, but so far only people in the U. S. can install it.
The big question is whether anyone will actually switch to this new app when everything could just as easily happen inside the regular TikTok feed. Searching “FIFA World Cup” right now already pulls up the same hub and related posts. So why build a separate download? Some think the answer lies in money, not convenience. The new app is tied to the recently updated U. S. business group that now runs TikTok’s American operations. That group makes cash through ads, deals, and sponsorships, so this extra app could open fresh ways to earn revenue.
Not long ago, TikTok also rolled out a feature called Local Feed that shows nearby content. It uses a mix of GPS data, IP addresses, and past posts to guess where you are—unless you turn that tracking off. Critics have already raised concerns about how much location data TikTok collects and who gets to see it. Now, with another app focused on events and rewards, users might wonder if the platform is more interested in mining data than making life easier.
For now, TikTok Pro Events feels like a test balloon. If enough creators and fans start using it, the company could expand the idea to other big moments. If not, it might quietly disappear the way some features do. Either way, it’s one more way TikTok is trying to shape how people watch and share live experiences.
