Tornado Touches Down in Carroll County, Leaves Mild Damage Behind

A wind storm hit western Carroll County on Monday, and a small tornado touched down. The National Weather Service said the twister was about 150 yards wide and reached speeds up to 80 mph. It earned an EF‑0 rating, the lowest on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.
The tornado moved roughly 1. 6 miles from S Clear Ridge Road to just past Winters Church Road in the New Windsor area. It struck just after noon and ran through a patch of open land.
The damage was modest but noticeable. A large outbuilding’s roof fell off completely, and an agricultural sprinkler was knocked over and tossed north. Several trees were also blown down along the path.
Fortunately, no one was hurt or lost their life in this event. The storm caused some power outages and a few fallen trees, but the community recovered quickly.
Carroll County sits about 66 miles from Washington, D. C. and 43 miles from Baltimore, making it part of the larger DMV region that experiences occasional severe weather.
