The E. U. has decided to put a hold on a big trade agreement with the U. S. This deal was supposed to make trade easier and cheaper between the two. But things changed when Trump made some big threats.
Trump said he would add extra taxes, called tariffs, on goods from seven E. U. countries and the U. K. if they didn't let the U. S. control Greenland. This didn't sit well with the E. U. They see it as a threat to their independence and territory.
The trade deal was made last summer. It would have lowered taxes on many goods. For example, the U. S. would have kept taxes on most E. U. imports at just 15%. Some goods, like generic medicines, wouldn't have any taxes at all. In return, the E. U. would have lowered taxes on some U. S. goods. This would have helped American farmers and companies sell more in Europe.
But now, the E. U. says they can't move forward with the deal. They want the U. S. to stop making threats and start working together. Until then, the deal is on hold.
The E. U. is also thinking about how to respond to Trump's threats. They might add their own taxes on U. S. goods. This could affect things like airplanes, soybeans, and even bourbon. They also have a powerful tool called the "Anti-Coercion Instrument. " This could let them restrict or ban many U. S. goods and services in Europe.
This is a big deal because the U. S. and E. U. trade a lot of goods and services. It's worth over $1. 5 trillion every year. The E. U. is America's biggest trading partner. So, any changes in their trade relationship can have big effects.
