Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia representative, has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump since her arrival in Congress in 2021. She even compared herself to Trump, noting their similar backgrounds in construction and straightforward communication styles. However, things have taken a turn. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump announced he was withdrawing his support for Greene. He accused her of moving "Far Left" and being overly critical. Trump also mentioned that Greene had been upset about not receiving his calls, but he claimed he couldn't keep up with her frequent complaints. Greene responded on X, denying Trump's accusations and stating she would continue to pray for his administration to be respectful. She emphasized her commitment to her district and the American people, stating that she serves them, not Trump.
This fallout comes after Greene has been openly critical of Republican leaders. She has accused them of ignoring the rising cost of living and health insurance premiums, even gaining praise from Democrats for her stance. Greene also clashed with Trump over the release of Justice Department records on Jeffrey Epstein, which Trump has urged Republicans to drop. In an interview with "CBS Mornings, " Greene called Trump's opposition to releasing the Epstein files a "huge miscalculation. " She accused Trump of trying to make an example out of her to scare other Republicans ahead of a vote on the issue. Greene also criticized Trump's focus on foreign policy, leading Trump to say she had "lost her way. " Greene responded by saying she hadn't lost her way and was focused on the American people. She also announced she would not run for Senate, citing the Republican caucus's refusal to win. Trump claimed he played a role in discouraging her from running, citing a poll that showed she had little chance without his endorsement.
