President Donald Trump recently shared some big ideas on social media. He suggested giving Americans money directly to pay for healthcare and sending out $2, 000 checks from tariff money. But officials later said these were just ideas, not official plans. Trump posted on Truth Social that instead of giving money to insurance companies for ObamaCare, the government should give that money directly to people. He also mentioned putting money into health savings accounts, which people can use for medical expenses. He also talked about tariffs. Trump said the U. S. is making a lot of money from tariffs and should use some of it to pay down debt and give people $2, 000 each. He said this money could come from tax cuts, like no tax on tips or overtime.
But Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said these ideas aren't formal proposals yet. He said the government needs to reopen first before talking about new plans. Kevin Hassett, from the National Economic Council, said Trump is just brainstorming to help end the government shutdown. Trump's posts came during a time when Democrats and Republicans are stuck in a fight over the government shutdown. Polls show more people blame Republicans for the shutdown. Trump has been saying the economy is strong, but his posts suggest he knows Republicans need to do more. The idea of giving people tariff rebate checks has been around for a while. Earlier this year, Senator Josh Hawley suggested sending $600 checks to Americans using tariff money. But the Senate hasn't voted on that idea yet.
