At the World Economic Forum, President Trump sent a clear message to global leaders: invest in American manufacturing and enjoy low taxes, or face tariffs. He touted his administration's actions and promised changes based on what he saw as his mandate from the American public. Trump also suggested that Saudi Arabia increase its planned investment in the US from $600 billion to $1 trillion. While he emphasized ending the Russia-Ukraine war, he offered few concrete steps to achieve it.
Trump blamed the OPEC+ alliance for high oil prices that benefited Russia's war effort. However, he acknowledged recent drops in oil prices due to weaker demand and increased production from non-OPEC+ countries. His video address drew laughter when he jokingly invited Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to boost Saudi Arabia's investment.
The video speech occurred on Trump's third full day in office. Davos founder Klaus Schwab highlighted Trump's return and agenda as the main focus of the forum. Schwab even extended an invitation for Trump to attend next year's event in person.
