Trump's Pardons: Judges Speak Out

Former and current federal judges have strongly criticized President Trump's pardons for over 1500 people involved in the January 6 Capitol attack. They argue that these pardons are an abuse of power and could be considered a "high crime" worthy of impeachment. Judge Amy Berman Jackson highlighted the bravery of law enforcement officers during the insurrection and emphasized that patriotism is about loyalty to the country and the Constitution, not just a single leader. Judge Beryl Howell disagreed with Trump's claim of a "national injustice, " stating that no such injustice occurred. Judge Tanya Chutkan pointed out that the pardons cannot erase the trauma and damage caused by the rioters. Retired Judge Shira Scheindlin and Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe also condemned the pardons, with Tribe suggesting they could be an impeachable offense.
