Two IT Workers Paid by Dallas and Austin at the Same Time

Texas, USASat Apr 11 2026
Dallas officials say a whistle‑blower reported that two tech staff were working full‑time for both the City of Dallas and the City of Austin. The claim came through Dallas’s confidential hotline in November, prompting the Office of Inspector General to start a probe. The two employees earned more than $270, 000 together from Dallas alone—$144, 515 and $128, 750 per year.
Dallas has not named the workers but told the police’s Public Integrity Unit, the city manager, and Austin that it was looking into the matter. Austin fired three of its technology staff during the week of March 23, including an interim chief information security officer who had previously worked for Dallas. The former chief declined to discuss the situation, citing legal advice. Both cities insist their computer systems stayed secure and no data was lost because of the alleged dual employment. Dallas says it is still investigating, while Austin has not released further details.
