U. S. Faces Weapons Dilemma: Israel vs. Ukraine

The U. S. is caught in a tough spot. It's trying to help both Ukraine and Israel fight their wars, but it's running out of weapons and money. Recently, the Pentagon said it would send a powerful missile defense system, called THAAD, to Israel to protect it from Iran's missiles. But it won't do the same for Ukraine. Why? Because these wars are different, and the U. S. says different weapons are needed.
This is a problem because helping Israel might mean less help for Ukraine. The U. S. has already spent billions on both. For example, since October 2023, it's given Israel $22. 6 billion for its war. And since February 2022, it's given Ukraine about $175 billion. Both numbers are huge!
Some experts think the U. S. can't keep this up. They say the U. S. might ask Europe to pay more for Ukraine's war. Others worry that if the U. S. can't help enough, Russia or Iran might win.
Israel is worried too. It wants to hit back at Iran for a recent missile attack. But if it does, Iran might attack the U. S. troops and missile defense system in Israel. That could make things even worse.
