Ukraine and the US Team Up for a Big Investment Deal

Ukraine and the United States have started working together on a big investment fund. This fund is part of a deal about minerals. The first meeting of the board that runs this fund just happened. The deal is important because it helps Ukraine's economy, which has been hurt by the war with Russia. In exchange for giving the U. S. special access to Ukrainian minerals, the U. S. will invest money. This investment can help Ukraine's economy and also support its defense efforts. During the meeting, Ukrainian and U. S. officials agreed on some important steps. They set up committees and chose people to manage the fund. The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, said they are working closely with the U. S. at all levels. The U. S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, joined the meeting online. Svyrydenko said that U. S. investments can bring security for both Ukraine and American businesses in Ukraine. The war with Russia has been getting worse, but Ukraine wants to keep a good relationship with the U. S. , which is a key military ally. The minerals deal was agreed upon after it was pushed by former U. S. President Donald Trump. Under this deal, half of the money Ukraine makes from mining will go into the joint investment fund. The next step is to find projects for the first investments. This will be discussed later this month when a delegation from the U. S. development institution DFC visits Ukraine. To show that they are serious about the minerals deal, the Ukrainian government is reviewing all mining licenses. They have also started a competition to find someone to mine a lithium deposit in the central Kirovohrad region. Ukraine has a lot of important minerals. These minerals are used in defense, high-tech gadgets, green energy, and construction. They include ferro alloys, precious metals, non-ferrous metals, and some rare earth elements.
