Ukraine has shown its approval for a pause in fighting during the Winter Games.
The request came after Italy and Pope Leo encouraged world leaders to use the Milano Cortina event for peace.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Ukraine agrees with the idea of a truce and the UN resolution that follows it.
He added that Russia must explain its stance on the matter.
Sybiha told reporters in Kyiv that stopping hostilities would open a way for larger peace talks.
He warned that if Russia rejects the ceasefire again, it would prove that Moscow blocks any chance of ending the war.
Pope Leo spoke about an old Olympic tradition that pauses conflict during games.
He urged powerful people to act and start real dialogue for peace.
The war has lasted nearly four years since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
Russian troops control about one‑fifth of Ukrainian land and keep attacking the power grid.
The United States is working to mediate a settlement and has hosted talks between the two sides.
Ukraine hopes that a brief break in fighting will help move toward a lasting resolution.
