"Venom: The Last Dance" is the top movie this weekend, but it didn't quite meet expectations. The third and final Venom film, starring Tom Hardy, opened with $51 million in North America. That's less than half of what the previous films made on their opening weekends. Even though the movie didn't do as well as expected at home, it's doing great overseas with $124 million. The movie cost $120 million to make, which is less than many superhero movies. But to make it worthwhile, it needs to stick around in theaters for a while. The first Venom movie made over $850 million worldwide, and the second one made over $500 million. This new one might not reach those heights. Critics aren't loving it either, with a score of 37% on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans seem to be getting tired of the series too, giving it the lowest score of the trilogy on CinemaScore.
Experts say that the movie just didn't live up to the hype. Fans want each new superhero movie to be bigger and better than the last, and this one didn't deliver. The overall box office is also struggling. It's down compared to past years, and there aren't many big movies coming out soon. The next big ones are "Gladiator 2" and "Wicked" in November. In other movie news, "Joker: Folie à Deux" is doing poorly, and a new drama called "Conclave" is doing well. It's about the selection of a new pope and has good reviews.
