Vermont's Winter Sports Stars: Vote for Your Favorite Athletes!

Vermont's high school sports scene is heating up, and it's time for fans to have their say. The sixth round of voting for the Delta Dental Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week is now open. This initiative allows the public to vote for outstanding girls and boys athletes from various sports. The voting process has evolved since last year, with more athletes featured on each ballot, making it easier for fans to support their favorites. To cast your vote, head over to burlingtonfreepress. com. Voting is open from Monday, Jan. 19, until 9 p. m. on Thursday, Jan. 22. The winners will be announced on Friday, Jan. 23, on the same website. Remember, votes must be cast through the online ballot; emails and social media posts won't count. Do you know a deserving athlete who should be on the ballot? You can nominate them by sending an email to sports@burlingtonfreepress. com. Make sure to include the athlete's school, sport, and any notable achievements from the week.This week's girls athlete nominees are truly impressive. Grace Bourn, an eighth-grader from Rivendell, had a stellar week in basketball, scoring 19 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and making 4 assists in one game, and following it up with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in another. Harper Gutheim from Burlington also had a standout performance, scoring 30 points in a close win over rival Rice. Marah McGinn from BFA-St. Albans showed her skills on the ice, scoring three goals and an assist in a shutout victory. Addie Nelson from North Country had a dominant week, scoring 27 points and contributing in multiple areas in a big win. Paige Parker from U-32 was on fire, scoring 34 points with 8 three-pointers in a lopsided victory. Maddie Grace Ryley from Harwood also had a strong week, scoring 22 points and contributing in various areas in a close win. These athletes have shown exceptional talent and dedication.
