SEVENTEEN’s Vernon and The8 are teaming up for a new album under the name V8, set to drop on June 29. This isn’t just another side project—it’s part of SEVENTEEN’s plan to keep music flowing while most members serve in the military. The group has a history of splitting into smaller units for releases, and V8 marks their sixth official subunit. Vernon, a rapper and songwriter with major industry recognition, teams up with The8, a dancer and visual artist who’s also released solo work in China.
What makes V8 different from past units? For one, both members are deeply involved in creating the music rather than just performing it. Vernon has been writing songs for SEVENTEEN since their debut in 2015 and even joined the Grammy voting membership last year. The8, meanwhile, blends dance with contemporary art in his projects, so this album could bring a fresh creative mix. Their past collaboration on "54321 (Lift Off)" suggests they already have good chemistry. SEVENTEEN isn’t the only group using subunits to stay active during enlistments. Other acts have tried similar strategies, but SEVENTEEN’s approach stands out because their subunits have gained real fan attention. Will V8’s album live up to expectations? Time will tell, but the early buzz is promising. After the release, they’ll hit the road with a two-day concert in South Korea followed by shows in Hong Kong.
