Ever wondered how different types of volleyball serves affect a player's body movements? A recent study dug deep into this question. Thirteen professional male volleyball players, with an average age of 22 and lots of experience, were observed during two types of serves: straight-line (SL) and diagonal-line (DL). The results? Well, the diagonal serve showed some interesting differences.
When hitting the ball, the arm moved faster in diagonal serves compared to straight ones. Plus, the arm's angle was more closed in diagonal serves. As for the body, the hips and upper torso twisted more during diagonal serves, especially right before the hit. And during the arm swing, those twists were even more noticeable at certain moments. These findings imply that diagonal serving needs more careful body control to adjust the arm's angle. It's like perfecting a dance move—just the right twist at the right time!
