Washington Pool Gets a Legal Shake‑Up

Washington D.C. /country/ USA,Mon Jun 22 2026
The U. S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, announced that anyone caught defacing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool will face full legal action. The pool, a key part of the National Mall, has been damaged by vandalism that caused its new blue coating to peel off. President Trump blamed the problems on vandals, claiming they dumped corrosive chemicals into the water. Pirro said that even small offenses must be prosecuted to protect the capital’s safety. The pool is also dealing with an algae bloom that turns the water green; adding chemicals that feed this growth could lead to harsher penalties.
National Park Service staff recently added hydrogen peroxide to the pool in an effort to curb the algae problem. Trump first raised the vandalism issue on social media, claiming that most of the algae had disappeared and accusing a news reporter of “trying to rip the rubber off” the surface. The attorney’s comments come just weeks after the $14. 7 million renovation of the reflecting pool was declared complete on June 6. The legal stance underscores a broader effort to keep Washington’s historic sites in good condition and discourage future damage.
