A pet treat company in Michigan is pulling some of its dog chews off the shelves. Why? Because they might be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can make both pets and people sick. Best Buy Bones, Inc. is recalling four specific batches of Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites. These treats come in one-pound bags and have an expiration date of September 2027. The treats in question were sold in Wisconsin and shipped from Minnesota after September 23. The FDA found the issue after testing on September 11. The company has stopped making and selling these treats while the problem is being looked into.
Salmonella can cause serious problems. In people, it can lead to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. In rare cases, it can cause more severe issues like joint pain or heart infections. Dogs with Salmonella might seem tired, have a fever, vomit, lose their appetite, or have diarrhea. Even if they seem fine, they can still spread the bacteria. So far, no one has reported getting sick from these treats. But it’s better to be safe. If you have these treats, don’t give them to your dog. Return them to the store or throw them away safely. Make sure to wash your hands, bowls, and food containers well. If you have questions, you can call the company at 810-687-2106. They are available Monday through Thursday from 8 a. m. to 5 p. m. ET.
