Heavy rains are back in western Washington, and with them comes a flood watch for a big chunk of the region. This isn't just a drizzle; we're talking about a serious weather situation that could cause some serious trouble.
The National Weather Service (NWS) put out the flood watch early Monday morning. It covers parts of 12 counties, including major cities like Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia. So, if you're in any of these areas, it's time to pay attention.
The Skagit River is already causing some issues. It's been high before, but it's expected to rise again. Last week, it flooded roads and neighborhoods, setting records and even prompting the National Guard to step in. At least nine people had to be rescued over two days in Skagit County.
And it's not just the Skagit River. The NWS says we can expect between 2 to 6 inches of rain through Wednesday. That's a lot of water, and it could lead to urban and small stream flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage. Saturated soils also increase the risk of landslides and debris flows.
KING 5 has activated First Alert for this weather event. That means it's serious and could affect lives, property, or travel in the Pacific Northwest. During this event, the First Alert Weather Team will bring you the latest information to keep you and your family safe.
So, what can you do? Stay informed, be prepared, and if you're in an area that's prone to flooding, make sure you know your evacuation routes. This weather isn't something to take lightly.
