You might spot some amazing shooting stars this fall! The Taurid meteor shower will be visible soon. NASA says it's one of the biggest meteor showers, thanks to Comet Encke. This comet left a bunch of space debris behind, and when Earth passes through it, we see a show! The shower has two parts: the Northern Taurids and Southern Taurids. The Southern Taurids start first, from September to December. The best time to see them is usually around midnight, when the Taurus constellation is high in the sky.
Don't look directly at Taurus, though. Instead, lie flat on your back and look up. The Northern Taurids come next, peaking in early November. But the moon might make them harder to see. Patience is key when watching for shooting stars. Most years, you'll see only a few, but sometimes, they put on a real show! The Taurids can also produce meteorites, which are rocks from space that make it to the ground.
