Why the Patriots might bet on a comeback story this season
Foxborough, Massachusetts, USAMon May 11 2026
The New England Patriots have been busy rebuilding their edge-rushing group. After signing free agents Dre’Mont Jones and Gabe Jacas, they now have two fresh names to pair with Harold Landry III on defense. But some analysts think the team shouldn’t stop there—especially if they want to push for the playoffs.
One name floating around is Haason Reddick, a veteran who used to be one of the NFL’s top sack artists. Between 2020 and 2023, he racked up double-digit sacks every season, earning two Pro Bowl nods. His best year, 2022, saw him record 16 sacks and land second-team All-Pro honors with the Eagles. The problem? His production has dropped sharply since then, totaling just 3. 5 sacks in the last two seasons.
At this point, Reddick’s peak seems like a distant memory. But NFL teams often bet on bounce-back candidates, especially when they’re still in their early 30s and have a history of dominance. The Patriots, who are still finding their footing, might see him as a low-risk experiment. If he rebounds even slightly, he could add much-needed pressure to their pass rush.
