Rumors are flying about OpenAI's next big thing, a model code-named Orion. According to a report, it might be released by December, but OpenAI's boss, Sam Altman, isn't saying much. He's been sharing mysterious tweets, just like he did before the release of their last model, Project Strawberry.
Orion, which some think might be called GPT-5, won't be available to everyone right away. Instead, it'll be given to some businesses to build products with. This is similar to what Nvidia is doing with their large language models.
Microsoft is also involved, planning to host the new model from November. But there's still no proof that Orion will be called GPT-5, even though it's seen as the successor to GPT-4.
Altman has been vague about the release, only saying "fake news is out of control" in a tweet. People are confused about what he means and what OpenAI will do with Orion.
This news comes after OpenAI's surprise release of Project Strawberry in September. This model can solve problems faster than people, but it can't upload files or analyze images, and it's expensive to run.
People have been talking about GPT-5 since GPT-4 came out. Some thought it would be released this summer, but that didn't happen. Now, some think it might be released this December, while others think it could be later, like in 2025.
