As winter rolls along, Portland is wondering if late January will bring some Arctic charm. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has shared its forecast for the end of January, hinting at cooler temperatures. The prediction suggests that Portland might experience temps below normal, but precipitation looks to stay around average.
Meteorologist Josh Cozart points out that Portland has been quite dry lately. Since January 12, the city hasn't seen significant rain. This dry spell has boosted the rain deficit for the start of the year. However, there’s a glimmer of hope for rain by the end of next week. The high-pressure system that's been blocking rain will start to weaken, allowing some Arctic air to slip into the West Coast.
Portlanders should bundle up, as mornings will be the frostiest. Lows could drop into the upper 20s, making it the coldest it’s been this season. Typically, Portland expects lows in the mid-30s at this time. But don't worry, this chill won’t hang around forever. Temperatures are expected to rise again by the end of the month, returning to normal conditions.
