Windy and Wet: What to Expect This Thursday in DC

A storm is coming to the DC area, and it's going to be a wet and windy Thursday. The rain will start slow on Wednesday afternoon but will pick up speed overnight. By Thursday morning, the rain will be heavy, making the roads slippery and the morning commute slower than usual. The weather team is keeping an eye on this storm because of the strong winds and heavy rain. There might even be some thunder. The temperature will be warm and muggy in the morning, but by late morning, things could get a bit more intense. There's a chance for some strong wind gusts and thunderstorms, especially east of I-95.The good news is that the rain will help with the drought. We're expected to get one to two inches of rain by Thursday afternoon. However, this doesn't mean we're off the hook for flooding. While flash flooding isn't likely, some low-lying areas could still see water buildup. The Potomac River might also see some coastal flooding at high tide. In Alexandria, Va. , and Annapolis, Md. , there might be some moderate river flooding. But don't worry, the rain should stop by Thursday afternoon. The winds will pick up from the southwest, and the clouds will clear up, letting some sunshine in before sunset. Looking ahead to Halloween, the weather will be chilly with northwest winds gusting up to 35 mph. The temperature will drop to the low 60s, but it will feel even colder. For trick-or-treating, expect dry weather but temperatures in the low 50s.
