New Jersey is still feeling the chill from a recent winter storm that brought more ice than snow. The weather is tricky, with temperatures barely reaching freezing. This means roads, sidewalks, and driveways can be slippery, even if they just look wet. The state of emergency is still in effect, but some restrictions have been lifted. The storm didn't bring as much snow as expected. Areas like Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties saw only about 3 or 4 inches, far less than the predicted 5 to 9 inches. Warmer air turned the snow into freezing rain, making ice a bigger problem than snow. Temperatures are slowly climbing but remain in the mid to upper 20s. Winds are expected to be around 10 to 15 mph, with stronger gusts near the coast. Tonight, temperatures will drop into the teens, creating perfect conditions for black ice on roads and bridges.
Sunday will start cold, but a warm front is coming. This could bring freezing rain and drizzle, especially in the northwest. Light ice accumulations are possible before temperatures rise above freezing. Most of the state will see rain Sunday evening into Monday, with up to half an inch of precipitation. A strong front is expected to move through on Monday, pushing temperatures into the 50s and even lower 60s. However, the main concern will be powerful winds, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph possible. Wind advisories might be issued if the threat increases. The rest of the week will be colder, with temperatures struggling to reach the lower to mid 30s. There's a chance of snow squalls on Tuesday, mainly in northwestern New Jersey. Blustery conditions will continue, with gusts of 25 to 30 mph possible.
