Wisconsin Badgers' leading running back, Chez Mellusi, has decided to step away from the team to concentrate on his health. The team announced this on Friday, expressing their support for Mellusi's decision to focus on recovery. Mellusi, a sixth-year senior, has faced various injuries, including tearing his ACL in 2021 and breaking his arm and leg in 2022, which led to a nine-game absence last season. Despite his efforts to bounce back, his body hasn't responded as expected. He's been the team's top rusher with 56 carries for 232 yards and three touchdowns in four games.
Mellusi started his college career at Clemson before transferring to Wisconsin in 2021. He's had impressive seasons with the Badgers, tallying over 800 yards in his first season and showing consistent performance. The Badgers are already dealing with the loss of starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear. This leaves the team with Tawee Walker, Cade Yacamelli, and Darrion Dupree as the top remaining rushers. The Badgers will host Purdue this upcoming Saturday.
