Yoga Helps Teens Beat Online Gaming Overload
Wed Mar 18 2026
An experiment in an Indian school tested whether a short yoga course could ease the troubles of teens who play video games too much.
Researchers chose 120 students who were known to spend long hours on gaming and randomly split them into two groups.
One group followed an eight‑week yoga program that mixed breathing exercises, simple postures and calm meditation.
The other group continued their normal school routine without any special activity.
At the start, both groups showed similar levels of stress, concentration problems and social difficulties.
After the program finished, students who practiced yoga reported lower anxiety, better focus in class and more control over their emotions.
Their scores on tests that measure gaming addiction were also lower than those of the control group.
The study highlights how a brief, inexpensive practice like yoga can make a real difference in students’ mental health.
It also shows that teachers and parents might help troubled gamers by encouraging mindfulness rather than only restricting screen time.
Future research could look at how long the benefits last and whether adding other activities like physical exercise or counseling would strengthen the results.
