Yoga’s Quiet Role in Helping Kids Fight Cancer Side Effects
Wed May 06 2026
Doctors have been exploring gentle ways to ease tough side effects for young cancer patients. Yoga, often seen as a calm activity for healthy people, is now getting attention in hospitals. Between 2009 and 2024, researchers dug through hundreds of studies to see if yoga could help kids battling cancer. They found 45 relevant papers but only 12 fit their strict rules for good science.
The focus was simple: can yoga reduce stress, tiredness, and poor sleep in children with cancer? Most studies agreed it could. Kids who tried yoga moved more, felt less pain, and slept better. Their moods improved too. The benefits weren’t just physical—many felt calmer and happier overall.
Not all details were clear, though. Some studies didn’t say how many kids joined or how old they were. Others didn’t explain what kind of yoga was used. Still, the overall pattern was hard to ignore. Yoga seemed to offer real relief without side effects.
Hospitals might want to consider yoga as extra care for young patients. It’s cheap, safe, and doesn’t interfere with medical treatments. But more research is needed to figure out the best way to use it.
