Zaporizhzhia Power Restored After Short‑Term Break
Zaporizhzhia, UkraineSun Jun 07 2026
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which lies under Russian control in Ukraine, has announced that its main power line from Ferrosplavnaya‑1 is back online. The plant’s administrators posted the update on their Telegram channel, saying all equipment is now functioning normally.
A brief pause in fighting was arranged by the IAEA to let workers fix the line. The break, which is only the sixth of its kind since late last year, shows how difficult it is to keep a nuclear facility safe while war rages nearby.
Soon after the outage was reported, Rosatom accused Ukraine of breaking the ceasefire by launching a drone strike that wounded three people. The incident highlights how each side blames the other for threatening nuclear safety.
The Zaporizhzhia site is Europe’s biggest power station, with six reactors that are not producing electricity because they rely on external supply to keep the fuel from overheating. The latest repair effort keeps that safety net intact, but the underlying conflict remains unresolved.
