Local High School Stars Shine Bright in Weekly Sports Showdown

Every week, a group of standout high school athletes from Southwest Florida get a chance to shine. These boys, from different schools and sports, are nominated by their coaches or schools. They are then put to a vote by readers. The winner gets some cool prizes, like a T-shirt and a tote bag. Last week's winner was Dunbar's wrestler, Chancey Alexander. He got the most votes, with 36% of the readers choosing him as their favorite. But the competition is always tough, and there's always a new group of athletes to cheer for the next week. This week, the nominees come from basketball, soccer, and wrestling. In basketball, there's Brock Bass-Bonner from FBA, who scored 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in his first game with the Lions. Then there's Hezekiah Jones from Cape Coral, who led his team to a big win with 18 points. Cole Vetor from CSN also had an impressive week, scoring 36 points and helping his team win.In soccer, Ty Collins from Lely made history by becoming the single-season record holder in goals scored. He scored three goals and assisted on another in a big win. Andrew Espinoza Nava from Naples also had a great week, scoring twice in a close game. And in wrestling, Gabe Harris from St. John Neumann had a strong performance, helping his team advance to the regional finals. But it's not just about the winners.
