Local Print Shop Wins City Award for Community Spirit

St. Charles, MO, USA,Thu Mar 05 2026
A small print shop that started in a garage has earned recognition from city officials for its positive impact on the town. The business, known as The Hairy Ant, was given a “Spirit of St. Charles Award” at the February 2 city council meeting. The award highlights how local companies can help a community grow. The shop began as a hobby in 2008 when founder Anthony Harrison experimented with screen printing. By 2016 he turned the passion into a full‑time job and opened a storefront in the city. Today, the shop produces custom shirts, hats, posters and more for residents, schools and sports teams. Harrison says the company is a “home for all things creative” in town.
City councilman Mark Foulkes praised the quality of the work and the business’s willingness to support local needs. He noted that it is always satisfying to see a local firm thrive while serving the community’s interests. Harrison feels honored by the city’s acknowledgment. He enjoys watching his designs worn proudly by neighbors and students. The shop’s success demonstrates how a small venture can become a community staple. The school district also recognized Harrison last year, naming him a Distinguished Alumni. The district highlighted his entrepreneurial drive and creative spirit as an inspiration for students pursuing their own projects. On its website, the shop emphasizes that clothing is more than fabric—it’s an expression of personality. The company encourages people to choose apparel made by those who share their enthusiasm for art and individuality.
