London Stops Illegal Crypto Trading Sites

London, United KingdomWed Apr 22 2026
The U. K. regulator stepped in to shut down eight hidden crypto trading spots across London, working with tax and crime units. They sent stop‑order letters to each location and collected evidence that will feed into ongoing police cases. The targets were alleged to let people trade digital money directly, skipping the legal registration and safety checks that official exchanges must have. In Britain, any business dealing in crypto has to register with the Financial Conduct Authority; no unregistered P2P platforms exist by law.
Officials warned that these illegal traders create a danger for money laundering and other crimes, allowing bad actors to hide and spend illicit funds. This action follows earlier moves against rogue crypto ATMs, unregistered exchanges and overseas platforms that promoted risky products. The crackdown comes as the country plans a full‑scale crypto rule set by late 2027, with a new licensing period opening next year.
