Luxury Store Hit Again, Still Shut Down

A store in downtown Birmingham, Michigan, stayed shut after a break-in. Five men broke glass in the early hours of Sept. 17. They took more than 200 luxury items. The owner said the goods were worth about $100,000. Police are looking into it and have leads.

This was not the first hit. In June 2024, four hooded thieves broke a window and took items from the same shop. The owner added two alarms to each window after that. The new attack still happened. That raises a question: what more can a small business do?

Nearby owners feel the shock. The shop is across from the police station. That makes the incident feel odd. Police say it was a targeted attack, not a wider threat. Still, some owners are thinking about better security.

The owner of the hit store does not want fear to win. She says the business should not close because of the thieves. She hopes the suspects will be caught. People can ask what kind of safety plan would actually help a small shop.
