Mafia: The Old Country's Unique Path

"Mafia: The Old Country" developers aren't losing sleep over comparisons with "GTA 6. " They've been on different tracks for over two decades. In a chat with IGN, game director Alex Cox and president Nick Baynes of Hangar 13 explained that modern game development takes a lot of time. So, they're focusing on making the best "Mafia" game they can.
The developers pointed out that "Mafia" and "GTA" have been growing apart since "GTA 3" came out in 2002. While both games started with similar mechanics, "Mafia" has always been more about its linear story. It's not an open-world game like "GTA. " Baynes compared "The Old Country" to the first two "Mafia" games, which were also more story-driven.
"The Old Country" won't have endless side quests or activities like "GTA. " This could work in its favor, as it might not directly compete with "GTA 6. " The game's release window, leaked as Summer 2025, might also give it some breathing room.
