MAGA Base Unhappy with Epstein Files Handling
President Donald Trump recently backed Attorney General Pam Bondi amid growing discontent within his MAGA supporters. The issue? The administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Trump's attempt to calm the situation seems to have backfired, sparking more criticism.
Trump's Defense and Supporters' Reaction
Trump took to his social media platform to defend Bondi, calling her work "FANTASTIC" and urging his supporters to rally behind her. He also dismissed the Epstein controversy as a distraction from his administration's successes. However, his post received more replies than likes, indicating widespread disapproval.
Critics and Public Discontent
Critics, including conservative commentators Laura Loomer and Megyn Kelly, have been vocal about their dissatisfaction. They argue that Bondi's handling of the Epstein files shows a lack of transparency and could negatively impact the GOP in the upcoming midterms.
At a conservative conference, the crowd booed when asked if they were satisfied with the Epstein investigation results. This public display of discontent highlights the growing divide within the MAGA base.
Lara Trump's Response and Infighting
Meanwhile, Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, acknowledged the need for more transparency but assured supporters that more information would be released soon. She also dismissed any claims of a conspiracy to hide information.
The controversy began after the Justice Department and FBI released a memo stating they found no evidence of Epstein's alleged "client list." They also confirmed Epstein's death was a suicide. Bondi has faced backlash for her comments about the "client list," which she later clarified referred to a file on Epstein.
Infighting within the administration has also surfaced, with Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino reportedly considering resignation due to disagreements with Bondi. Trump, however, expressed confidence in Bongino's continued service.
Trump's Steadfast Support
Despite the backlash, Trump remains steadfast in his support for Bondi, even bringing her to the FIFA Club World Cup final. He urged her to focus on other priorities, like voter fraud and the 2020 election.
