Master P Speaks Out on Mystikal’s Struggles and Sentence

Master P says Mystikal needed help long before he went to prison. He thinks the rapper never got the right medicine for his mind. Master P also points out that many people try to fix their problems with drugs instead of professional care. He believes untreated mental health and substance use played a part in Mystikal's downfall.

In June 2023 a court gave Mystikal a twenty‑year sentence for third‑degree rape. The charge came from an attack at his Louisiana home in 2022. The woman said he assaulted and raped her after accusing her of stealing money. As part of a plea deal the original first‑degree rape charge was lowered and the max punishment was set at twenty years.

This is not the first time Mystikal faced a sex‑related charge. In 2003 he pleaded guilty to sexual battery and served six years behind bars. Despite his legal troubles Master P still highlights the rapper’s role in building No Limit Records. Albums like Unpredictable and Ghetto Fabulous helped make the label a hit in the late 1990s. Now Mystikal’s son Jimi Nu performs his father’s songs on stage, keeping that legacy alive.

Before sentencing Mystikal tried to take back his guilty plea, saying he did not understand the deal. The judge refused the request. After the prison term began the woman filed a civil lawsuit in 2023, and that case is still active.
