A future where all your smart home devices just work together, no matter which tech giants are behind them. That's the vision Matter 1. 4 promises. This new update aims to bring more device types on board, improve cross-ecosystem workability, and manage energy-saving tech like battery backups and solar panels.
One of the key features is "Enhanced Multi-Admin. " Think of it like having one person at the control center who can let a device onto the network once, and it'll be recognized by all systems. No more dealing with complicated "secondary codes" or acting like an unpaid helper.
There's also "Fabric Sync, " which might sound strange, but it's essential. "Fabrics" refer to different smart home systems like Amazon's Alexa or Google Home. The idea is that you could set up a smart light bulb with your iPhone and add it to Apple Home, but it should also be recognizable by a Google Home system. Even better, systems that don't have controls for certain categories, like Apple and smart displays, should now be able to interact with them.
However, all this depends on the tech platforms. They need to adopt the Matter 1. 4 standard and ensure it works smoothly. Amazon and Google are on board and planning updates, while Apple hasn't shared its plans yet.
