McAfee Gets Vest Warning After Utah Scare
Pat McAfee gets messages from people who want to harm him. These threats show up often. Some are death threats. He deals with this regularly. It is not a rare event for him.
The FBI became concerned after Charlie Kirk was killed. Kirk was a right-wing activist. He was shot at Utah Valley University in September 2025. The week after that shooting, the FBI told McAfee to wear a bulletproof vest. They wanted to protect him. The advice came because of safety fears.
McAfee was also part of College GameDay at the University of Utah. The school created a video. Students in the video copied McAfee's style. He felt they were being rude to him. Then a student in a kicking contest complained about winning just one million dollars. That bothered him too. He did not enjoy the visit.
On his show, McAfee spoke about the visit. He said he felt very uneasy at the event. He asked if anything frightening had happened at a college gathering in Utah recently. He wondered if the school should give people reasons to dislike him. He said he hated the place, though he liked the football team. He wanted people to know how he felt.
ESPN backed McAfee with a statement. The network said safety is the top priority. They support him and take threats seriously. The University of Utah apologized too. They said the video was a mistake. They said staff should have reviewed it before posting. They told McAfee they regretted what happened. They said he and the GameDay crew are always welcome on campus.
